Salad Chicken Rice @ Labuan

Labuan is the main island of the Malaysian Federal Territory of Labuan. Labuan is best known as an offshore financial centre offering international financial and business services via Labuan IBFC since 1990 as well as a tourist destination for nearby Bruneians and scuba divers. The name Labuan derives from the Malay word labuhan meaning anchorage.
You can take either take flight or boat to Labuan. I took about 40 minutes speed boat from Menumbuk to Labuan. The speed boat really challenging and luckily i did not vomit. :P

Labuan is a boring place to me. May be I just spent few hours there and did not really explore Labuan further. The only selling point here is I can buy cheap chocolate and liquor / beer since tax free, just like Pulau Langkawi.

Anyway, I managed to discover one nice food there - Salad Chicken Rice which located in a kopitiam that facing the jetty.

Soya Pan Mee 豆浆板面

Understand some people have tried Soya Steamboat before, but how about Soya Pan Mee?

At Noodle Village, you can find variety of Pan Mee includes Soya Pan Mee which sold at RM7.80. ideal for your lunch or dinner. You may feel weird to use soya as a soup, same as what I thought before I tried it. Actually, the taste of soya soup is not same like soya bean drink, with less taste of soya.

Sheng Ji Seafood Noodle (生记海鲜面)

Usually we will get squid, prawn, oyster, fish and fish ball in seafood noodle sold in Klang Valley. Sheng Ji Seafood Noodle will be served with standard seafood as mentioned ablove plus additional seafood such as sea cucumber, scallop and many funny types of seafood. Some more, the prcie is very cheap, suddenly can't recall the price but sure is cheaper than RM10. You can't get this price in KL. May be it is because of seafood in Tawau is very cheap. Besides this seafood noodle, got another selling Mongolian Chicken Rice which I heard is very delicious but unfortunately when I visited this restaurant, the chicken rice stall was closed. A bad day!

Famous Mee Soto in Tawau

Karmel Cafe (侨群茶室) is selling the most famous Mee Soto in Tawau. But, very surprise that the chef is Chinese, not Malay. The Mee Soto served with different toppings for customer to choose, such as seafood, beef, etc. I tried Mee Soto with beef. The taste is good and totally different from what sold by Malay style Mee Soto.

Besides, the cream tart sold here (the one looks like UFO) also very nice. Noticed that most of the chinese restaurant will sell bread, tart, etc. during tea time hours. Not like KL, only manage to get it from bakery shops. I believe Sabah like to enjoy tea time break, don't they?

Shuai Shi Xiang Cafe (帅仕相茶楼) @ Tawau

What so special about Tawau? I can say two things: Seafood and Islands (such as Sipadan Island). When come to Tawau, must take seafood because is very cheap, fresh and bigger size. Most of the seafood caught from the deep sea. I take seafood in all my meal when staying in Tawau include breakfast.
The following was my breakfast on my 2nd day in Tawau - dry noodle (干捞面)served with cooked fish head (焖鱼头). I noticed that ppl in Tawau like to order dry noodle (no toppings) with dishes, may be is the local culture. Anyway, the cooked fish served by Shuai Shi Xiang Cafe is very nice especially the dark gravy, suit to take together with the dry noodle. But, not recommended to eat without any rice or noodle because bit salty.

Seaweed Noodle (紫菜汤面) @ Lahad Datu, Sabah

Found a special noodle called Seaweed Noodle at a restaurant in Lahad Datu. Therefore i tried it but no big deal. Anyway it worth to try since i never see this noodle here. By the way, the biscuit called Niu Se Bing (牛舌饼) sold here very nice, better than those sold at baker shops in KL.

Home Made Fish Head Noodle

The soup served very nice. This is one of the delicious Fish Head Noodle found beside Win Soon Cafe located at Kuchai Lama.

The fish head noodle sold Rm8.50 per bowl here. The price sure more expensive due to the dining environment. RECOMMENDED!

Restoran Hong Cha (猪肉粉)

Restaurant Hong Cha is famous with pork noodle in OUG. Besides pork, the noodles also topped with squid and prawn. Here, you need to sit at the road side to enjoy the nice pork noodle. Actually you also can sit inside the restaurant but sitting outside is cooler. If you don't like pork, you may try their seafood noodle or Japaneses food. Feel very funny that such Chinese restaurant also serves Japaneses food such as tempura etc.

Please remember to order a cup of Red Bean Ice Blended to pair with the noodle, is nice!

I believe the restaurant owner really make a good profit from this business. If not, they won't invest system whereby the waitress can take your order via PDA, ha................they are more advance than a lot of high class restaurant.

RECOMMENDED!

Restaurant Lok Wee Koi

On the way back to KL from Penang, I dropped by Ipoh town to have lunch there. Actually Penang is not the only place with plenty of delicious food, Ipoh also very famous with many food such as Bean Sprout Chicken Rice, Tau Foo Far, Salty Chicken, Dim Sum, etc. For instance, I just simply choose a restaurant called Restaurant Lok Wee Koi to fill my hungry stomach and still can find some nice food here such as Rojak, Duck Drumstick Noodle (鸭腿面) and pork stomach noodle (猪肚汤面). The only thing can catch my eye is the special drink in this Chinese restaurant, not the food - Ice-Cream float. This ice-cream float is better than the one sold at fast food restaurant because the owner add extra thing (the red color water shown in the following photo and I believe is Syrup). I would say this drink is RECOMMENDED!

I think I need to pan a Makan Trip to Ipoh, haha......

Penang Famous Char Koay Gak @ Lorong Macalister (炒粿角)

Char Koay Gak (炒粿角) @ Lorong Macalister is introduced by a Penang friend and saying this stall's Char Koay Gak is one of the famous Char Koay Gak in Penang. Therefore I decided to try it before left Penang Island back to KL. My comment on this food is "Not Bad" and definitely better the Char Koay Gak sold in KL.

And my Penang Makan Trip ends here......

Northam Cafe (诺登美食坊)

I remember when I was kid, the gurney drive hawker center was at the seaside. You can enjoy the cold wind blew from the sea and listening the wave sound besides tasting the delicious Penang food. After the gurney drive hawker center was moved about 50 meters away for the sea side (can't recall since when), I can't experience it again as what I experienced mentioned as above.

Luckily, I found another hawker center which can bring you to experience the same - Northam Cafe. Not been there before? You should go there in your next Penang trip. Varieties of food served there and easy parking without parking fee.

Foods At Gurney Drive (新湾仔角美食中心)

Gurney Drive is one of the must go place in Penang. At Gurney Drive here, you can find the largest hawker center in Penang (Am I right?) and varieties of local Penang food are served there such as Laksa, Prawn Mee, Rojak, Seafood, Char Koay Teow, etc.

Every time I will order cooked octopus for myself, Sotong Bakar, Rojak and Soya Pudding for my girl friend when I am here. Generally, the food at Gurney Drive just so so only...

Please bear in mind that you will face parking issue when you go there. If the day is your lucky day, then you can park your car at road side. Usually, I will park my car inside Gurney Plaza, is easy but with parking fee!

Kedai Makanan Dan Minuman Taman Emas 金園茶餐室(灣島頭Laksa)

Asam Laksa is one of the specialty in Penang. Can't complete your Penang trip if you haven't tried the laksa. Usually I will take laksa few times within 2-3 days. Everyone saying Ayer Itam Laksa is Inchiban but I prefer 灣島頭Laksa sold at Kedai Makanan Dan Minuman Taman Emas (金園茶餐室), I would say far far better than Ayer Itam Laksa. RECOMMENDED!

Food Rating: 8 /10

Besides laksa, you also can find Nyonya Kuih, "Cai" Kuih, Char Koay Teow, fried popiah, Chee Cheong Fun with prawn sauce (蝦膏) at this restaurant.

Sister's Char Koay Teow 姐妹炒粿條

Sister's Char Koay Teow is one of the favourite char koay teow (Fried Koay Teow) in Penang which is located at Lam Heng Cafe (南興茶室) of Jalan Macalister. Please don't be cheated by the photo that the char koay teow is served with 4 big prawns, actually just 2 only. The another two were given by my mum......hehe :P

Trying famous food usually will make you keep waiting for at least half and hour (sometime worst till more than an hour) to have the ordered food served on your dining table.

The mi is sold at RM4.00 per plate which is not cheap. May be the price is affected by the prawns given! Anyway, the taste of this fried koay teow is not so special and not sure the reason caused it become famous. Since it is famous, is not harm for you to try it. RECOMMENDED!

Food Rating: 6 /10

When you are here to try the char koay teow, please remember to try Stewed Chicken feet sold by a stall just beside Sister's Char Koay Teow stall. Very nice!! Besides, its yam cake also not bad and just served with chilies sauce only. RECOMMENDED!

Restaurant Old Green House 老青屋餐室

Restaurant Old Green House is considered a hawker center located at Jalan Burma, next to 1926 Heritage Hotel. The specialty of this hawker center is Green House Prawn Mi (called Hokkien Miin Penang). The size of the prawn mi is very small which is not suitable for dinner but yes for supper. RECOMMENDED!

Food Rating: 7 /10

Besides prawn mi, I was attracted by small Pau with sausage. So i ordered 3 pcs of it together with 3 pcs of small pork (char siu) Pau and 3 pcs of red bean pau. Taste normal but feel a bit expensive, cost me RM0.70 per pc. In KL, just only RM1 for 3 pcs.

Kluang Noodle House (居銮家乡面)

I believe everyone knows Kluang very famous with "Roti Bakar" at the railway station there. But, have you heard about Kluang Noodle? Not necessary need to travel to Kluang to have the noodle. At Aman Suria, you can taste the noodle.

The restaurant famous with its Kluang noodle with Pork Chop (猪排面) which sold at RM7.90 but I still prefer normal dry Kluang noodle which sold at RM5.90. The gravy of the dry noodle is nice and different from others (normally will use black soy sauce, etc). Fine with soup as well.

家常便饭馆

I was attracted to visit this restaurant because of a very funny noodle name called "Cat Mee" (猫面). I brought my family members to try the Cat Mee. This restaurant serves many types of Cat Mee and we tried dry curry (干咖喱), salty chicken (咸鸡), salty fish pork (咸鱼花腩) and Mei Cai Kou Rou (梅菜扣肉) of cat mee. But, we're not satisfy, not really delicious especially the salty chicken mee which is not salty at all. Luckily I did order San Pei chicken (三杯鸡) which can satisfy our dietary.
